No joke, This post has been sitting in my draft box since the day after Thanksgiving. I just keep editing it to catch up on my life. UGH BUSY.
Christmas and New Years Eve have come and gone. It blows my mind how fast it goes. I mean seriously, I knew it was coming, I kept saying wow I have to hurry and do this or that. I have to put my Christmas decorations up early because it will just fly by and then it is all over in about 3 minutes.
Christmas was busy but wonderful this year. We hosted it at our new house with lots of family members. We shared tons of food and lots of laughs. We had family come in from multiple states. Every year Mark and I say we are going to stop going “overboard” on the kids Christmas. Well that always works until like the week and a half before and we end going out and buying ALL THE THINGS and get so pumped about it. No regrets.
New Years Eve was amazing. We took my sister and her friend to eat and then to The Ritz Carlton for their little New Years Eve celebration and by little I mean the place was packed out the door but buddy was it is a blast. We went about 6 years ago and it was literally an old man playing the piano with a fire in the fireplace and old rich people staring at us. This year though they have grown into a real shindig. DJ, bars set up, food, fireworks, dancing, GOOD TIMES. We had such a blast dancing the night away to the electric slide, drinking $18 drinks, and hanging with friends! I paid for it the next day but I felt like I rung in 2018 appropriately.
I planned on doing one of those best moments of 2017 posts on my instagram stories where I take you through all my best times. But That is hard work I have like 7,000 pictures on my phone and trying to track down my favorite moments for each month was next to impossible. So ill recap you a little bit here. Favorite moments of 2017 – I started appearing on First Coast Living – pretty frequently (SO MUCH FUN) I was promoting My Dear Hart on live television. AHH. We went on an epic snow adventure and our girls got to see snow, build a snowman, make a snow angel and sled for the first time, Mark and I celebrated 6 years of marriage. We basically lived on the beach, We went on multiple camping trips that were seriously life changing & now we are ADDICTED to it and crave it, things got a little weird and I totaled my SUV – so scary, I got a precious little honda pilot that is paid off and my heart was quickly mended, I started a hashtag #ameliaislandhomes and starting posting pictures of my favorite southern homes – Southern Living, Real Simple, Draper James, First Coast Magazine, 904 Happy hour & Amelia Island have regrammed my pictures multiple times, life made. I received tickets to the Okeechobee Music Festival and Mark and I went, talk about life changing. Wow. We camped and fulfilled our hippy loving dreams while jamming to our favorite artists for days. A memory we will never forget. I was featured on the Hallmark Channel Home & Family show 3 times! We are talking national television people. AHHH. We were invited to enjoy an epic staycation with Omni hotels here locally and had an amazing vacation right up the road from home, We adventured all summer long with trips to Cumberland Island, Kentucky, Brevard, NC, Georgia, the florida springs. We lost someone very close to our family and our lives all changed again. It will never be the same and we will never forget. We experienced another hurricane (Irma) and had to travel to higher ground while we prayed our little island didn’t get swept out to sea. WE BOUGHT A HOUSE, my babe turned the big 30 years old and we kissed our babies too many times to count and experienced so many fun memories in between. It was an incredible year and we can’t wait to see what 2018 brings the Hogan crew and My Dear Hart.
Well not a whole lot to update yall. It’s a damn work in progress if ive ever seen one. We painted Riley’s room and added some little gold polka dot decals she wanted. So adorable BTW! She will have one gold polka dot wall. We haven’t really hung anything on the walls because for one we haven’t painted the main areas yet and also I need new décor. Sometimes being on Pinterest for too long is a bad thing. SO OVERWHELMED WITH IDEAS. lol. Every 5 minutes I hit my husband with “Ok babe so.” He is like NO. Don’t even go any further. haha. ugh. We decorated the house all cute for Christmas. We have just now gotten all the window blinds updated and connected. Those babies are expensive but so worth it because they make SUCH a difference. Floors we were hopeful would be completed by Christmas and that ain’t happenin’ so better luck next time Ash, Hopefully February? We are now tackling the lighting situation in the house. Our house is pretty new compared to the area of town it is in and the lighting fixtures are new just not our style so we took them all down and now we are in a mess trying to add recessed cans and new fixtures and also bulbs that are all the same color. Why is this the hardest project? Did I mention I work for an electrical company lol. Calling them in for back up very soon. The backyard alone has kicked our asses. We are just now finished with the clearing, it is nearly half an acre that was full of overgrowth. It also was tossed around by the hurricane. Ugh don’t get me started on trying to get this grass up and going. So that’s that. We both work full time and we are poor because we have two kids. So come over and help and bring supplies.
So as you all may have noticed. I have kind of switched up my blog content a bit. I have wanted to feature more fashion and beauty on My Dear Hart for a long time but I was scared to dive in but I have decided to just go for it! I have always loved getting dolled up and of course dressing up my two little mini sweets. Shopping has always been a
problem passion of mine. Back in September was My Dear Hart’s 2nd birthday! YAY for blogging! But in the 2 years I have worked on this blog a lot has gone on and changed. I started it as an outlet to socialize with other moms and document my crazy stressful time as a stay at home mom. I was still experiencing touches of post partum depression, breastfeeding, lack of sleep, Riley starting Kindergarten and then 1st grade (can not believe that) and now our first house and so much in between. I promise to keep it real over here in true My Dear Hart fashion. Just doing it a little fancier now, with maybe some mascara on! I have had a great response from you guys with the fashion and I hope to grow the blog even more in 2018. Everything is a work in progress of course but I appreciate the support! So cheers to good shoes, am I right?!
Get Healthy. Well this is important and pretty much everyone’s goal right? It should be. Before I got pregnant with Ella I was really working on my fitness! I was watching what I ate and I got down to pre baby weight and even smaller. I felt great. Once I had Ella I thought I would be able to get back in my groove quickly and bounce back. NOT. Time to kick this thing up and get motivated. I live for pasta, pizza, cheese and bread. It has to end. Who wants to join me and help motivate me?!
Finish our home. Let’s be real it will never be finished. BUT I do hope to accomplish some of our major projects pretty soon! I hope to have our backyard complete and a big ol’ BBQ going on by July! Corn hole anyone?!
Go on more adventures. If you guys have been following this blog for any amount of time you know this fam is always on the go. We seek out adventure anyway and anywhere we can. We hope to go to new places and experience new things with our kids this year. Overseas adventures will soon be apart of My Dear Hart 🙂
Do that one big thing. This is vague but I think this applies to everyone. Mark and I are always working on something. Every single day we have different ideas and plans. Some are seriously genius, others not so much. A couple have been sitting in the “planning/afraid to go for it” stage for over a year now. Who knows maybe 2018 is when we let it loose y’all. Live your dreams y’all. You only have one life, GO FOR IT.
Simplify & organize. We actually did this a few years back when we all moved into a 1 bedroom apartment. yeah that was crazy. Read about that adventure here.We rid ourselves of so much and learned how to live simply and boy was it a revelation.
Volunteer. I would like to do more in my community with my girls. We try our best to do things through out the year and anytime we see an opportunity but I would like to set up a day that we spend a certain amount of time volunteering somewhere.
