Brevard, North Carolina 🌿

Man oh man what a beautiful place. From the minute we pulled into town I thought hmmm..maybe we could live here. Mark says he will work for the park services and I will be a stay at home mom. We will live on a farm with a large garden and lots of animals. On the weekends we will cook fresh organic meals and eat on our porch overlooking the mountains and hike trails and jump in waterfalls. πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

In the mean time…we will be making regular visits.

First things first- Brevard, North Carolina, located about 45 minutes from Ashville. It is about a 6 hour drive from Amelia Island. Not bad at all! The town sits amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains and is surrounded by beautiful hiking trails and breathtaking waterfalls!

We stayed in a large 4 bedroom Barnhouse on a top of a mountain!

We rented this property through www.vrbo.com there are many options in that site for whatever size/style you are looking for. www.airbnb.com Is another GREAT site for finding lodging. The camping options are also amazing as well! There are many options πŸ™‚

When we arrived, we didn’t feel like cooking so we ate out. We went to downtown Brevard to a restaurant called Marco Trattoria which was delicious and super cute atmosphere!! I would absolutely recommend it! Delicious food and great healthy options for kids as well! We sat on the front porch and had great service.

Another MUST is Dolly’s Dairy Bar. You guys it’s the most presh place I’ve ever seen, it right at the entrance of the Pisgah National Forest. They have over 200 flavored of homemade ice cream! 🍦 they have a huge front porch with lots of rockers and tables out front under colorful umbrellas.

Right across from Dolly’s is the cutest food truck called Dahlia’s. There are small tables for sitting and then also small containers with picnic blankets in them to have a picnic in the large grassy area behind it. Adorable! And the food is DELICIOUS. My brother and I had the shredded buffalo chicken sandwich. My sister had the grilled cheese with tons of cheese, pesto & mayonaise. 🐹, Alexis had the veggie melt and everyone else had a classic hotdog! We of course had a picnic!

The rest of our “eating” consisted of home cooked meals at the house! We did a little grocery shopping at Ingles in town. Excellent grocery store! Lots of organic options and delicious fresh meats & produce. Oh and also there is a Starbucks there! 😎.

Of course majority of our trip consisted of exploring the mountains! The first day we went to Looking Glass Falls. It was incredible. The weather was perfect, the temp never went over 74 degrees the entire trip. We walked down to the waterfall and jumped right in! The water is freezing, but very refreshing and so worth it!

the rocks are EXTREMELY slick. I definitely suggest water shoes / crocs. I did slip & fall, details coming up! 😡

Next we went to Sliding Rock. I didn’t do this one because I had to hold Ella and also take a video {of course} but Mark, Riley & Loren went first which I got on video and Bradley and Alexis next and their footage was caught on the GoPro!

So after that waterfall we were ready to take on all the waterfalls and the mountains and all Mother Nature……

last picture taken before Riley and I did the “death slide” πŸ€•
You guys. I joke a majority of the time but this is seriously the scariest thing to happen to me in my life so far. If you look at the above picture you will see the dry rock area and the wet rock area. The wet rock area was EXTREMELY slippery. We carefully maneuvered our way through the dry rocks and found a large area to sit and hang out. Mark (of course) thought it would be fun to slide across the rocks into the tree area and grab a branch to catch him. So he did. And arrived safely. As soon as he touched the other side, Riley jumped up and ran towards him. She got too close to the wet area and slipped and fell. Panick/terror/pure hell rushed over me. Of course I grabbed her arm in 2 seconds, but… I also slipped and fell. Now we are both on these extremely slick rocks with rushing water pushing us down the waterfall. I couldn’t stop us or find anything to grab onto. Finally we hit a big dry rock that stopped us and Mark was able to get to us. The waterfall itself was about 4ft over a pile of rocks. Nothing massive, but we were moving fast into unknown territory and OUCH it hurt. I scraped my knees, elbow, knocked a huge bump on my head and scraped my leg. Luckily Riley didn’t get a scratch on her, she was balled up in the fetal position with the jaws of life grip around my neck. 😳. SCARY AS HELL. Also I smashed my Nikon Lense and the camera has water damage, because it was around my neck when we fell 😫. After we finally made it back up to dry land I was OVER the day completely. I wanted to get the kids back to the house and chill. So we did, Mark, Bradley and Alexis went back out exploring. We started some dinner {steaks, asparagus & baked potatos} ate at the huge dinner table together then watched all of the day’s adventure on the GoPro on the TV.

The next day I was very reluctant to get back out there because of my tragic slip and slide incident, but everyone convinced me to go. I am so glad I went, it was epic to say the least! First went to a very safe little creek with lots of dry rocks, and plenty of space to roam and play. We built little rock castles, and sat in water puddles. Eventually we found a a little swimming area and started jumping off the side of the waterfall into it! I was terrified at first obviously. But then I finally did it! Soooo much fun! Even Riley did it!

Next we moved onto High Falls and Oh. My. Gosh. What an experience. It was beautiful. It was quite a hike to get to it but when we got there it was amazing.

The hike back up the mountain was rough, since I was carrying Ella on the front of me in a strap on carrier but a great workout 😎πŸ’ͺ🏼.

Also we did all these things with BOTH children so it’s all family friendly and your kids will never forget it!

We are headed back in October for my birthday making a day trip to Ashville one of the days and I’m counting the days πŸ‚πŸπŸŒ»πŸŽƒπŸ„πŸ‘»πŸŒΏβ›ΊοΈ
